We were greeted at the center by the director, Mr. Biu Tien Thanh. Social Protection Center III, is unique in that is the headquarters for 3 other centers in the region. This particular center houses and supports over 100 adults & seniors, while also caring for over 90 children. The children range in age from infant to 16 yrs. This particular center will support the children until they are able to attend a vocational school or are permitted to finish high school & pursue college. This is determined by standardized testing.
Mr. Thanh shared with us his love and enjoyment for working at the center. Saying that, he loved watching the children grow up to become adults & become social. In addition to his love for his career, he also shared that the staff are very devoted to the residents & this is a very supportive setting.
Like many state sponsored centers, nutrition provided to the residence can vary weekly depending on funding. In spite of having a lack of resources the community emphasizes an “improved spiritual life.” Making it a point to visit spiritual centers and local religious sites as often as possible. (Twice a year) Fundamental needs here are met and value is placed on self improvement & betterment.
We have provided unpoppable Futbols for each of the grades & classes at this center. Dry goods, hygiene items & art supplies were provided to the center in support of the school and permanent residents. All of the goods and services were received by Mr. Thanh and staff.
