Project Tepatitlan 2020

In September of 2020, we again had the privilege of supporting the orphans at Instituto Ana Maria Casillas in Tepatitlan, Jalisco, Mexico. For every project that we organize, there are always unique obstacles that we are forced to overcome. This trip proved to be no different.

On several occasions, we postponed & rescheduled our travel from Tijuana to Guadalajara due to travel restrictions. In addition to the state & federal regulations imposed both here in the U.S. & in Mexico. There was also growing concern for the safety of the students & staff we had planned to support. After months of organizing & making changes, it was determined that we would proceed with the trip. However, out of respect for the privacy & safety of students & staff it was collectively decided that we would not have personal interactions with the students. (to include photos etc.)

Typically, we enjoy sharing stories, photos & clips of the students receiving & using the donated resources. However, given the current circumstances we decided to share & highlight some of the local small businesses we worked alongside to provide the resources for the school.

Prior to our arrival, we worked with teachers to determine what specific & vital items were needed. We then worked with local establishments to purchase items for all of the orphans. In some cases, we were even able to purchase items from parents (of students) with small businesses that could benefit from increase in sales while supporting their child’s peers.

Working with 5 local small businesses we provided resources to support the health, education & creativity of 47 children. To include;

  • Bulk food items to improve meals provided by staff
  • Required classroom learning materials
  • Art & craft supplies
  • Games & entertainment
  • Personal hygiene items (oral care, feminine care, soap/shampoo)
  • Diapers & infant care items
  • Personal uniform items for students
  • Cleaning & sanitizing supplies
  • First aide items
  • Specialty care items (ex. lice shampoo)
  • Have A Ball Fundraiser shirts for every child & staff member

Finally, we are happy to report that with the funds raised by our first fundraiser. The above items will stock the pantry & supply closet for the remainder of the year & in some cases will supply the school for up to 1 year.

We are always grateful for these opportunities & the individuals that we have met along the way & supported us from the beginning. The project & support of these communities would not be possible without your selfless giving. We thank you & hope to have your support for future Have A Ball Projects.
